National Curves Day

description: In partnership with
the United States Office of Women’s Health,
and in celebration of National Women’s Health
Week, May 13- 19, National Curves Day will be
May 17. Curves will be giving away One Million
30-day Free Memberships to new members. Curves
of St. Marys will be hosting an open house featuring
various health tests and massage. Community Nurses
will be participating with blood sugar screenings
and
blood pressure tests from 1 to 3. Julie Boults,
Massage Therapist will be offering hand and feet
massage from 4 to 7 pm. BMI and body fat analysis
will be available also. There will also be bone
density testing from 2 to 4 and Sharon McGowan
will be there from 10 to 11 teaching simple stretches,
breathing and relaxation techniques.

Book Drive to Benefit
the Elk County Rural Reading Project – Literacy

Parents as Teachers’ Program is conducting
a book drive to benefit the Elk County Rural Reading
Project – Literacy Express. The Express
provides free books to children birth to five
throughout Elk County. The kick-off event will
be Friday, May 18 at the South Saint Marys Street
Elementary School in the school gym & auditorium.
Doors open at 5:30pm, entry fee will be a new
book or $2 all children must be accompanied by
an adult. There will be a movie, popcorn and drinks.
The movie – Cat in the Hat starts approx.
6:00 pm.

Collection (for the 2012 Used Book Sale)

are collecting books for their 2012 Used Book
Sale for Hospice. The collection and sale this
year will be held at St. Marys Catholic Middle
School cafeteria. Your book donations are most
appreciated. Please bring books to SMCMS on Wednesdays,
May 23 and May 30 from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June
1 from noon to 4, and Saturday June 2 from 9 a.m.
to 2 p.m. When dropping off books, drive behind
the school to the large set of doors on the convent
side of the building. Book sale dates are set
for June 7, 8, and 9. Volunteers are needed to
help sort and organize books! Call 781-4729 if
interested.
2012 Memorial Week-End

description: The 2012 Memorial
Week-End Dedication will occur the Saturday before
Memorial Day, May 26th. The event will begin at
1:00 PM, and will be held at the Mt. Zion Historical
Park. The theme of this year’s dedication
is Vietnam, and a memorial will be dedicated in
the Veteran’s Honor Walk remembering those
Veterans who were killed in action in the Vietnam
Military Conflict. Sponsoring this event in addition
to the Mt. Zion
Historical Society are Bennett Valley American
Legion Post #978, Bucktail Chapter 720 of the
Vietnam Veterans of America, and local Scout Troop
94. There will be a number of other organizations
in Elk County also participating. To date there
will be 35 Veteran’s Pavers, and two park
benches also dedicated this year. The Mt. Zion
Historical Society has expanded the eligibility
for Veteran’s Pavers to include members
of the Bucktail Chapter 720 of the Vietnam Veterans
of America. The cost of a Veteran’s Paver
is $60.00, and to be eligible for this years dedication
orders must be
received on or before April 30th. Application
forms are available on the Mt. Zion Historical
